About Psychometric Testing

What are IQ tests?

IQ or intelligence is a word with a very broad meaning. Current research tells us that each of us has a broad range of intelligences that we draw on at different times depending upon the task at hand. The IQ tests used in our service are ‘general tests of intelligence’ which measure ability to work in generalised careers. For example a test of numerical ability might be given to someone who believes they would like to be an accountant. This way we will be able to reliably advise if the test taker has good reasoning and problem solving ability in this area before they undertake the relevant course of study.

What are the Benefits of Psychometric Testing?

They lead to judgements that are more likely to be valid than other methods of assessment alone.

They inform your decision independently. By that we mean that they don’t make the decision for you and they don’t take it away from you. They just give you an independent perspective.

Well administered and interpreted by professionally qualified testers they provide useful information about how effective you might act and perform in a job/career course.

They add objectivity to a process.

They are designed and tested to be as fair and impartial as possible.

What about Psychometric Tests on the Internet?

On the Internet you will find a broad range of assessments varying in their degree of reliability. Before taking a test make sure you know

  1. What is the test supposed to measure?
  2. Whether the test is suitable for use (e.g. is it designed for use within an Irish context).
  3. Whether the test has been developed by a reputable test developer and that the test is suitably accredited e.g. Has the test been reviewed by the British Psychological Society (BPS)?
  4. How long the test has been in existence and whether it has been updated

All our tests have been carefully selected. We review any updated versions to consider if the changes incorporated are applicable to our service. This way you can be sure you are receiving the most appropriate test for your needs.

I’ve heard lots about Emotional Intelligence – what is it and how does it differ from your service?

The expression emotional intelligence or EI indicates a kind of intelligence or skill that involves the ability to perceive, assess and positively influence one's own and other people's emotions. At Quo Vadis Solutions our personality assessments include elements of your EI.   For example EI is seen as being more important in leadership positions than at entry level positions. Our service will help you to identify your natural abilities, your personality traits and incorporate your life preferences
