“It is clear the future holds opportunities - it also holds pitfalls. The trick will be to seize the opportunities, avoid the pitfalls, and get back home by 6:00.”
(Woody Allen)

As young adults (between about 15 & 19) generally you will find life unsettling enough with the demands of mature adulthood being thrust upon you. When you add to this, the demands of identifying and establishing a career the pressure increases. So it’s quite understandable that when choosing what you want to do when you leave school, it’s a major decision. It brings a mixture of anxiety and pleasure.

As many of you are independent and self sufficient in your career decision making process we believe it is important that you are equipped with as much practical useable information as possible. At Quo Vadis Solutions we will help you to make an informed decision. We encourage you to take the person that you are into account when considering your options, and not just your grades. In addition we specialise in helping you to identify college and career options based on your interests, which we then correlate with your identified personality traits. What you also get is a list of career options as well as information on what the job/careers and courses involve.

The timing of when you get this career information is important. For some of you it’s required in transition year, as you believe you know where you are going. For others you are still unsure as late as 6th year, when CAO deadlines loom. Either way, having a clear understanding of your temperament, personality traits and interests will lead to a better long term choice. There are two main reasons for this:

  1. The dropout levels in colleges - due to poor or ill-considered choices is - quite high. A recent study shows that in some Dublin colleges the dropout rate is almost as high as 30%.

  2. The Union of Students in Ireland conducted a survey that revealed that the cost of attending college is circa €7,000 per annum. If you are attending a private college this figure is considerably higher.

Because our approach is eclectic there is a better chance of you choosing the right subjects early on even if you are uncertain about final career directions. For example, a recent client came to us half way through 6th year and was completely confused about what she wanted to do. Our assessment suggested, among others, Advertising Art Director. As she had never considered this career as an option she had not considered Art as a leaving cert subject. Her final year decisions were made purely on the basis of more main stream subjects. She is considering repeating art now.

The clear advantage of our approach is that you are able to:

  1. Choose subjects that are probably more closely related to a career choice of greater interest to you in the long run

  2. Identify college courses that reflect your temperament, ability and area of interest

  3. You will receive a report that lists for you the attributes that are naturally present in your personality and how they link to your chosen career options.

In addition, we give you the following information relating to your top three choices:

  1. Job Description
  2. Degree Information
  3. Entry and Training
  4. Opportunities and Pay
  5. Work Experience
  6. Work Details
  7. Personal Qualities and skills required for the job
  8. Resources
  9. Addresses for further information
  10. Similar Job options
  11. Based on your perspective any Pro’s and Con’s identified
  12. The CAO educational courses which could be of interest to you including details of University Subject Choices and what they cover
